Installing an exit sign or emergency light can be relatively straightforward, especially if you have experience with hanging or installing other objects, or basic tooling knowledge. Most lights or signs will be accompanied by instructions. If not, most manufacturers will have a customer service phone that you can call to get help with a specific model.

Before emergency lighting installation

When installing emergency lights, be sure to contact your electrician if you are not familiar with the proper safety procedures. The emergency light will be connected to the wires of the building or home so that it can sense when the power is disconnected. Even if a power outage or circuit breaker trip occurs, the unit is signaled to have power and has 90 minutes of backup power to illuminate the path to the exit.

Of course, before installing the emergency light, be sure to trip the circuit breaker connected to the emergency light to avoid electric shock and electric shock. Before disabling the power supply, check that all backup batteries in the device are properly installed. After the power is turned off, the instructions will guide you to connect the power properly.

Installation instructions are included with each unit. Before performing any installation steps, make sure that the circuit where the emergency light is to be installed is turned off.

In order to properly install the emergency light, two or three connections need to be made in the electrical system. Incorrect installation of an emergency light can damage the transformer and the board, rendering the equipment unusable and damaged.

First, determine the connection voltage to the emergency lighting device to be 120 volts or 277 volts. Next, check the connections on the device and there will be 3 or 4 wires with color and label:

120v wire (black)
277v wire (red)
Ordinary line (white)
Ground wire (green - not all models are included)
Connect the correct voltage and common wires to the electrical conduit. If your emergency lighting requires a grounding wire, connect it. Do not connect the 120V and 277V lines at the same time - the unit will malfunction.

Turn on the circuit power, charge the emergency light and its backup battery for 24 hours, then test the backup battery to the full 90 minute capacity.

Emergency light installer
If your wall is not yet wired for the fixture, you will need to consult an electrician to make the necessary wiring. Depending on the device, it is usually installed or partially installed before wiring. Wiring uses a 120 or 277v AC power supply. This allows you to charge the battery when you are using the building’s power supply, and then use the battery power directly when the building’s power is stopped.

Most emergency lights are mounted using mounting brackets, while others have prefabricated areas for securing the screws to the wall studs through the back. It is important to be familiar with your specific model and its installation instructions. Typically, once screws, screws or brackets are used to mount the equipment, these screws and wires are covered by a metal or thermoplastic casing.

Exit sign installer
The emergency exit combination mark is a simple and effective solution for applications that require both an exit sign and an emergency light.

When installing the exit sign, many of the same considerations as installing an emergency light will also work. It must be determined whether the signage is to be connected to the building’s power source or to the backup generator, or only to the building’s power source. Depending on the design, some export signs will have a side mounting bracket that leads to the light that hangs the sign. Other signs will be screwed into the studs from the back of the sign and the panel will slide forward to cover the bulb and casing. As with the emergency light, an electrician needs to be consulted if the marking has not been routed.
